ALESSANDRO LANZONI TRIO FT. RALPH ALESSI presents SELDOM
Alessandro Lanzoni presents his new album “Seldom” released by CAM Jazz (distribution by Goodfellas) on November 18th. This is the second record of his trio with Matteo Bortone on double bass and Enrico Morello on drums. The album features special guest and world-renowned trumpeter Ralph Alessi.
“Seldom” is another highlight in the career of the 22 years old pianist that prooves a remarkable maturity both technical and expressive.
Alessandro was awarded with the ‘2013 Best New Talent’ Prize, by highly-respected italian Jazz magazine Musica Jazz, after the release of “Dark Flavour”, the first album of the trio. The prize was followed by a very intense period of concerts that helped the trio to focus on new compositions before recording the new album. In studio, despite the fact that it was the first time they played with Ralph Alessi, a good musical connection immediately blossomed.
If “Dark Flavour” featured original compositions and some standards, in “Seldom”, Alessandro Lanzoni’s singular vision shines through. By focusing almost exclusively in his own compositions (he signs all the compositions of the album, except for one song of Matteo Bortone and three free improvisations in duo with Ralph Alessi), Alessandro develops and articulate more the structures, without sacrifying the melodic approach.
Multi-thematic pieces, shifted in several sections, going from relentless and unexpectable momentums to more floating and delicate atmospheres. Melody and rhythm of the primary themes drift through free improvisations, always without losing cohesive listening approach.
